Over twenty Crooms Academy students attended the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference in the nation’s capital. While in Washington, D.C. the group was able to not only compete in several events but they were able to visit the famous monuments and Smithsonian museums (and a few were lucky enough to eat at the delicious D.C. Cupcakes).
Individuals competed in events such as Computer Security, Visual Basic Programming, and Java Programming. Teams of students competed in judged events such as Presentation Management, Parliamentary Procedure, Video Production, Network Design, and Broadcast News stood out from the crowd. Sophomore, Lee B., placed first in Visual Basic Programming and third in Java Programming. Not far behind, senior Douglas D., placed fifth in Java Programming. Douglas’ Network Design team, including Byran R. and Siddque J., made it to the top ten in the nation in their event—their second year in the top ten. The Presentation Management team
succeeded in also making it into the top ten for the second year in a row. This team included Carly N., Vicky M., Shelby K., and Shannen S.
Each and every BPA member stood out from the crowd this year and none of it could have happened without their advisor, Mrs. Aycock. Even though traveling by Metro and walking to scrumptious eateries was a great way to relax during competition, the group is glad to be back in Florida.
